Troubleshooting PLC control system
General Objective:
Being able to troubleshoot and maintain a PLC control system is an essential part in any Machine or Process Automation. either you are in a Manufacturing or an Oil and gas industry you will notice that PLC dominates the other control system of a plant. Most of the PLC programmer who are interested and is working with PLC for years has a vast knowledge in automating a process but lacks the knowledge in troubleshooting the hardware side of the PLC such as troubleshooting using the diagnostic led indicator, battery replacement, module replacement, initialization of device, communication related problems, start-up procedures and standard, maintenance of PLC and troubleshooting of external devices that is connected to your controller.
Learning how to troubleshoot a PLC control system will give engineers, Technicians as well as students an edge in the field of Machine and Process automation and will serve as a huge upgrade on their skills, knowledge and critical thinking in troubleshooting a PLC control system.
Course prerequisite:
- Practical Electricity and electronics
- Basic programmable Logic controller (This particular course will help you upgrade your skill set in Machine and process automation to a higher level if you are a newbie in the world of PLC's!)
Course objective:
This online training course is designed for technicians and engineers who can't afford to attend an actual face to face training because of schedule availability. This is a 24hr course that can be customized depending on the availability of the student. The student will have an Overview of the modules available for a specific automation system and will have an understanding on the hardware fundamentals of a PLC control system, start-up procedures, identifying the problem using basic flag parameters of the software, diagnostic LED indicator definition, troubleshooting I/O modules, General system requirements for your Programming devices, Basic tools and troubleshooting and wiring the most common devices controlled by a PLC.
At the end of the course the student should be able to learn the following:
- Hardware fundamentals of a PLC control system
- Start-up procedures and standard
- Identify problem using basic flag parameters
- Diagnostic LED indicator
- Troubleshooting I/O modules
- Troubleshooting and wiring the most common devices controlled by a PLC

Q: Do I really need to enroll in practical electricity and electronics before enrolling in this course?
A: If you are an industry practitioner or is in the field of machine or process automation then you are not required to take PEE. otherwise, you need to. There are some exceptions for students or career shifters provided that they can pass the assessment exam.
Q: Is your course troubleshooting a PLC control system is for Mitsubishi FX3U PLC only? Is it Brand specific?
A: Although, We are going to use FX3U PLC for the whole course. the knowledge that you will gain is not limited in a specific brand. The topics are general and can still be applied in different brands of PLC.
Q; Will you be providing hands on exercises?
A: For this online course, We will still provide hands on exercise but it is limited to simulation or theory. We can dedicate a 1 day training at MFI for you to be able to appreciate and perform all the hands-on activities in troubleshooting a control system.
Q: Let's say that I am not available during the online session/Discussion how can I catch up with the lesson?
A: The discussion will be recorded everytime and we can generate a link and send it to you so you can still watch the lecture/discussion.
Q: Do we have an access to all the presentations and learning materials?
A: Yes, But for the whole training course only.
