This course deals with the study of the operation, design and function of various pneumatic and electro pneumatic elements commonly used in the industry. It presents the different pneumatic and electro pneumatic symbols and explains how they are used in schematic diagrams in accordance with ANSI, DIN and ISO standards. Sufficient time is allocated for hands-on exercises to achieve hook-up and troubleshooting skills of both pneumatic and electro pneumatic circuits.

This course also covers the operation, application, basic capabilities, functional features, specifications, troubleshooting procedures and preventive maintenance of a programmable logic controller (PLC). In this course, the participant develops an appreciation of mechatronics and the many advantages of a PLC compared to conventional control systems. Emphasis is given to the actual hook-up of the PLC to common electrical and electro-pneumatic devices such as lamps, relays, contactors, solenoid valves, timers, counters, directional valves and cylinders. Hands-on exercises on testing and simulation of various practical applications with a PLC are also covered.
